RODS Heroes started in 2012 when Andrea challenged me to do an Ironman triathlon to help an orphaned child with Down syndrome get adopted. “You must be crazy!” I responded.
After a little coaxing, I finally accepted Andrea’s challenge and from that special experience “Racing for Orphans with Down Syndrome” (RODS Heroes) was born.
Fast forward to today and where we’ve been blessed to help over 100 children get adopted, most of whom have Down syndrome. What an experience this has been!
At the beginning of the year, I had an idea. I thought, “I think it’s time to return the favor to Andrea and challenge her to do an Ironman to help a child in need of adoption.”
On New Year’s Day, I extended this challenge to Andrea and she did not disappoint. She accepted with one condition, that I do the race with her. “You’ve got a deal!” I said.
On May 4th, Andrea and I will be racing in the St. George Ironman 70.3 to help Leon, an amazing orphaned boy with Down syndrome, find his forever family.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 that will be used as an adoption grant for Leon.
Thank you for your amazing support over the years in making these miracles for these special kids become a reality! Let’s see if we can create another miracle for Leon!
